About Deborah
Deborah grew up in California. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a M.S. Speech Pathology and a B.S. in Communicative Disorders. She is certified by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), and maintains the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). She participates in the ASHA Special Interest Group dedicated to swallowing disorders. Deborah also maintains affiliation and membership with Texas Speech-Language Hearing Association (TSHA) and The Dysphagia Research Society (DRS). She has held certification in VitalStim therapy since 2003, and she is recertified every 3 years. Deborah has been a speech and language pathologist at Texas Children’s Hospital, at the University Of Texas Health Science Center/Speech & Hearing Institute, at Mentis Neuro Rehabilitation, with Personal Physician’s Group, with River Oaks Doctors Group, and in the Houston Independent School District. She was a clinical instructor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Communicative Sciences and in the Division of Plastic Surgery, both at Baylor College of Medicine. She has made multiple presentations to a variety of audiences regarding speech and swallowing deficits, including those disorders related to developmental problems, neurologic disorders, craniofacial anomalies, brain injury, and senescence (aging). Deborah has served as a speech pathologist in Houston for over 40 years.
